Metal Building Condensation: Spray Foam Is The Answer

Metal Building Spray Foam

Do you have a metal building that has a condensation problem?

A building that leaks or has condensation can create many problems. If this issue is not addressed your building and the things within it can be damaged. If you are experiencing this issue we have a solution for you.

Why does condensation occur and how can we stop it? Condensation occurs when there is a difference in temperatures between the substrate of a building and the air that the substrate is subjected to. Lets consider a metal shed for example. During the day the temperature on the inside of the building will be similar to the temperature on the outside of the building. Once the sun goes down the temperature outside will become cooler than the warm air on the inside of the building. The warm air on the inside will rise carrying moisture with it. Once the warm air hits the cold metal the warm air will condense. This process will cause water droplets to drip from your ceiling damaging the tools, equipment and other things you may be storing within the building. A leaking roof can also cause an unsafe environment for the occupants.

How can we stop this process from taking place? Although, your building may be insulated with fiberglass batts the fiberglass batting will not stop the warm moist air from passing through it. The reason the batting will let the moist air pass through it is because the batts do not contain a moisture or vapor barrier. After time this process will cause the adhesive that holds the batts in place to deteriorate and the batts will eventually fall off the ceiling. Once the metal is exposed without insulation the problem will become worse. Your metal building needs spray foam!

Green Space Construction is an insulation contractor that serves St. Louis Missouri and all surrounding areas. We specialize in all types of insulation including spray foam insulation. We can solve your condensation issue by removing the existing batting and applying closed cell spray foam insulation. The closed cell spray foam acts as a moisture and vapor barrier as well as increasing the efficiency of the building. The closed cell will prevent the metal from reaching the dew point terminating your condensation problems.
